Telma General Information
Telma (generic name: Telmisartan; brand names: Pritor / Kinzal / Telma / Telday / Teleact D) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB).
Telma is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive medicines.
Telma is a once-daily medication that works 24 hours a day. This means Telma is still working in the early morning, up until the next pill is taken, providing a full 24-hour blood pressure control.
Telma works by decreasing certain chemicals in the body that cause blood vessels to constrict (narrow).
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Telma exactly as directed.
Take Telma by mouth with or without food. The usual starting dose of Telma tablets is 40 mg once a day, but dosage must be individualized. Blood pressure response is dose-related over the range of 20 mg to 80 mg.
The antihypertensive effect is apparent after the first dose and maximal reduction is generally attained after 4 weeks.
Try to take Telma at the same time every day.
If you miss a dose of Telma, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Store Telma in a cool dry place, away from direct heat and light.
Before taking Telma, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have liver, kidney or gallbladder problems;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
